INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE AND ILLICIT TRAFFICKING

Today, the Health and Safety Ministry of New Port Baptist Church joins the global community in observing the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. This day is dedicated to raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse, preventing the illegal trafficking of drugs, and encouraging healthier, safer communities. ‎ ‎What is Drug Abuse? ‎ ‎Drug abuse is the misuse of legal or illegal substances in a way that harms a person's physical, mental, emotional, social, or spiritual well being. It can lead to addiction, poor health, damaged relationships, financial hardship, and even death. ‎ ‎Common Causes of Drug Abuse ‎ ‎Some of the factors that may lead to drug abuse include: ‎ · ‎Peer pressure and the desire to fit in. · ‎Curiosity and experimentation. · ‎Stress, anxiety, depression, or emotional struggles. · ‎Family conflicts or lack of parental guidance. · ‎Poor knowledge of the harmful effects of drugs. · ‎Easy access to illegal drugs. · ‎Unemployment, boredom, and negative social influences. ‎ ‎What is Illicit Drug Trafficking? ‎ ‎Illicit drug trafficking is the illegal production, transportation, sale, or distribution of prohibited drugs. It fuels crime, violence, addiction, and insecurity, causing serious harm to individuals, families, and society. ‎ ‎How Can We Prevent Drug Abuse? ‎ ‎We can all play a role by: ‎ · ‎Educating ourselves and others about the dangers of drug abuse. · ‎Saying NO to recreational and non medical use of drugs. · ‎Choosing positive friends and avoiding negative influences. · ‎Seeking help from trusted family members, church leaders, or healthcare professionals when facing emotional or mental challenges. · ‎Parents maintaining open communication and providing proper guidance to their children. · ‎Supporting individuals recovering from addiction with compassion rather than stigma. · ‎Praying for God's wisdom, strength, and protection over our families and communities. ‎ ‎As believers, we are reminded that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit and should be cared for with wisdom and discipline. ‎ ‎Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit... Therefore honor God with your bodies. (1 Corinthians 6:19–20) ‎ ‎Let us work together to build a healthy, informed, and drug free society where every individual can live to fulfill God's purpose. ‎ ‎Stay informed. Stay healthy.
